Mrs. Martha "Delane" Bessenger Bivens, (affectionately called DeDe), wife of Thomas W. Bivens, Jr., of Charleston,died Saturday, June 11, 2011, at home surrounded by her family. She was 60.
Mrs. Bivens was born April 21, 1951 in Charleston, a daughter of Marguerite Kiser Bessenger and the late James (Bubber) Bessenger. She was a member of Jacksonboro Baptist Church, and was a graduate of Walterboro High School. She also graduated from Palmer Business College with honors. Mrs. Bivens worked for U. S. Congressman Mendel L. Davis and the Gordon Garrett Law Firm.
Surviving besides her husband of 35 years and her mother of Jacksonboro, are: two daughters, Dr. Brooke Bivens Ash and husband Howard Ash, III of Hanahan and Shannon Bivens Gregg and husband Matthew Gregg of Charleston. Also two grandchildren Addison O. Ash and Colson C. Gregg. Our many thanks to Palmetto and Lutheran Hospice. The family extends their gratitude to her caretakers Margaret, Martha Ann, Marquite, Gwen, Beth and Jerry.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home followed by a memorial service. Memorials may be made to MUSC Children's Hospital Fund, P.
