"Tommy" Hiers

WALTERBORO: Thomas J. "Tommy" Hiers, husband of Karen Knight Hiers, died Sunday morning at Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro after a brief illness. He was 64.

Mr. Hiers was born in Walterboro Feb. 19, 1948, a son of the late Thomas Lagare Hiers and Sue Maxey Hiers. He retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard HVAC Shop #56, and during his career, traveled throughout the world with the civil service working on navy vessels. He was also a popular sales representative with WALLY 93.7 Radio Station. Mr. Hiers was a member of Grace Advent Christian Church where he was a deacon, assistant Sunday School Superintendent, operator of the church sound system and the all-around maintenance worker and repairman. He cherished his family, enjoyed playing church softball in his younger years, and was an avid USC Gamecock fan.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Matthew Richard Price (Jessi) of Walterboro, and L. Brady Price (Ashley) of Springhill, FL as well as by two daughters, Terron Hiers Lairson and Alicia Morgan Price both of Walterboro. He has one sister, Gail Jones of Walterboro, and ten grandchildren: Ronald A. Gainey, Bradley T. Price, Emmie C. Faulk, Jacob L. Lairson, Lauren G. Price, Ashton T. Canady, Lizzie D. Wyzanowski, Martha H. Wyzanowski, Matti P. Price, and Jeremiah C. Lairson. He also had a beloved granddog Destiny, a cousin that he considered a brother, Ernest "Wink" Maxey, and a special friend he loved as a daughter, Patty Walling.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday in the Grace Advent Christian Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday in the Grace Advent Family Center located directly behind the church sanctuary. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Grace Advent Christian Church, 398 Mt. Carmel Rd., Walterboro, SC 29488.
