WALTERBORO: Mrs. Elizabeth Graham Smith, wife of the late Francis Paul Smith (1942 - 2006), died Monday morning at her residence. She was 89.

Mrs. Smith was born November 2, 1922 in Augusta, GA, as an only child to Willie and Annie Alderson Graham. Lib had some very strong roots in Drs. Creek Baptist Church which began when she married into a Drs.Creek family, Taylor and Janie Smith in 1942.

She was active and supportive and had a passion for people in need, Meals on Wheels, the Mission field for Jesus Christ and had a great joy in her Sunday School class-friends through the years.

In 1939 at Augusta Junior College, Lib stirred a Passion within her that would last a lifetime truly, she played on the "Tennis Team" at AJC. While reading her College year book, you will find signings from her friends that "She was a Force to be reckoned with" even in 1939. Very competitive and loved to win. She and her racquet took a short time off to raise her family and her passion then returned and until her death, never left her. She was listening to Wimbledon 2012 as her eye sight had left her, but her hearing was clearly exceptional. Tennis is a game that must be played mentally and strategically and Lib was strong until her death in both areas.

Lib traveled extensively abroad with her college friends after retiring and in between tennis matches, her love for travel was only exceeded by her love for her family. She also had a love and joy for reading through the years.

Her joy was her family and she planted some great seeds in the lives of all that she touched. Her voice will be missed, but her work is done here on earth and will continue to live out in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, this was God's promise to her. "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the Shadow of the Almighty", Psalms 91:1

She was courageous, full of "Lib Wit", great humor, and knew her Heavenly Father personally. Her confidence in HIM will live on in these truths through her beloved children, grands and amazing friends. Her keenness and discernment will be missed as she was a confident to her friends and family.

Surviving are: two sons, Michael Graham Smith of Walterboro and Francis Taylor (Frankie) Smith of Orangeburg; a daughter, Elizabeth Anne Smith Neiman of Brevard, NC; grandsons, Graham Conrad Neiman and Taylor Victor Neiman and a great-grandson, Taylen.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday in Doctor's Creek Baptist Church with entombment in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, directed by Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6;00 until 8:00 PM Sunday at Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Doctor's Creek Baptist Church, P. O. Box 2, Walterboro, SC 29488. Online condolences may be left for the family at parkerrhodenfuneralhome.com. .
