RUFFIN: Arnold Matthews, husband of Cathy Matthews, passed away Thursday morning at his home, surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Hospice of South Carolina. He was 64.


Arnold was born in Charleston May 29, 1952 a son of the late Arnold Alberto Matthews Sr. and Ellen Lovely Butler Matthews. He was formerly a machinist with the Charleston Navy Shipyard, and was a devoted husband and father. He loved to study his bible, and was both an artist and a historian. Arnold loved muscle cars and hot rods, and in his later years was an exceptional gardener and handy man. He will truly be missed.

In addition to his wife of forty years, he is survived by his daughters: Michelle Matthews Hudson (Kam) and Melanie Matthews, both of Ruffin. He has one brother, Charles Lewis Matthews of Columbia and one sister, Willette Parker of Charleston. He leaves behind his three wonderful grandchildren Ashley, Alexis, and Connor.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday evening, November 30, 2016 at 6:00 PM at Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home of Walterboro. The family will receive friends following the service.
