Obituary

Barbara Juliette (Davis) Franklin, 69, of Walterboro, South Carolina, passed away on August 11, 2024 at Summerville Medical Center in Summerville, South Carolina.

Barbara was born October 26, 1954 in Phenix City, Alabama to the late Mr. & Mrs. Willard & Evelyn Davis.  After graduating from Central High School in 1973, she attended Massey Draughton Business College for secretarial school in Montgomery, Alabama, she then became a secretary for Governor George Wallace at the state capital in Montgomery, Alabama.  Barbara married the love of her life Robert Franklin on December 28, 1986 in Phenix City, Alabama, the couple would then move to Walterboro, South Carolina where they raised 3 children. Barbara was a substitute teacher at Forest Hills Elementary School and in 1993 she attended Orangeburg Calhoun Technical College in Orangeburg, South Carolina where she would graduate with a degree in Respiratory Therapy. In 1994, Barbara worked at Colleton Medical Center as a Respiratory Therapist where she was a huge patient advocate and in 2005, she became the Pulmonary Rehab Manager at the Pulmonary Rehab Clinic in Walterboro until her retirement in 2012. Upon her retirement Barbara enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.  She was also the Chaplain of the Joseph Glover Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Barbara is survived by her husband Robert Franklin, daughter Mary Beth Weekley of Texas, and her sons Scott (Kelly) Franklin of Georgia, and Jess Franklin of South Carolina, as well as her grandchildren Cooper and Charlotte Franklin. She is also survived by her sisters Jeri Fossett and Miriam (Fred) Wilks all of Alabama, her brothers Ken (Connie) Davis of Florida and Norman (Dimple) Davis of Alabama; as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Preceding her in death are her parents Jess Willard Davis and Mary Evelyn (Cheeks) Davis as well as her sister & brother-in-law Gwen (Ray) Newman, and brother-in-law Allen Fossett.

Services will be held at Parker- Rhoden Funeral Home Chapel in Walterboro, South Carolina on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 10 AM EDT followed by a celebration of life on September 7th at 10am EDT in Phenix City, Alabama at Summerville United Methodist Church where she will be laid to rest in Lakeview Memory Gardens in Phenix City, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made to St Jude's Church, 907 Wichman St, Walterboro, SC 29488 or Summerville United Methodist Church, 1201 32nd Street, Phenix City, AL 36867 or to your favorite charity or organization in Barbara's memory.
