Barbara Jean Sims, a resident of both Orlando, Florida and of Hendersonville, SC passed away Wednesday afternoon, August 12, 2026 at the Orlando Regional Medical Center at the age of 88.

Barbara was born May 4, 1938 in Bartow, Florida a daughter of the late Roy and Theresa Graves Sims.  After receiving her college education, and two Doctorates, she taught school for many years on the high school and college levels.  Barbara had a beautiful smile and she possessed a truly Christian heart.  She was always concerned about the needs of others, and she cared about her family deeply.  She was devoted to the care of her parents before their deaths, and for many years she dutifully maintained the graves of other family members at cemeteries throughout the area…especially at Peniel United Methodist Church Cemetery and Greenlawn Memorial gardens.   She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Orlando, where she served as church pianist for many years, and was active in the United Methodist Women.

Barbara is survived by her cousins Cynthia, Wanda and Jerry Craven, and Deborah Marsh.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon, August 22, 2026 at 12:00 in the chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, with burial following in Peniel Methodist Church Cemetery.   The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 11:00 that morning.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home of Walterboro, is in charge of arrangements.
