WALTERBORO : Mrs. Beulah Lee "Bee" Wilson Chapman, wife of the late Dr. John Hancock Chapman and the late Oscar Leonde Sammons, passed away peacefully in Florence surrounded by her family under hospice care. She was one month shy of her 102 nd birthday.
Mrs. Chapman was born in Dublin, GA September 14, 1918, the only daughter of Lee Achord Wilson and Avis Locke Wilson. She was raised by her mother and stepfather, Roy Chalmers Russell, "Daddy Roy," of Atlanta, Georgia. Bee is also predeceased by a half-brother, George Wiley Russell, and his son, George Russell.
For many years, she assisted her first husband at his dental practice in Walterboro. She was a faithful member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, where she was a former member of the choir, the women's circle, and was recreational director for the young people's fellowship. "Bee" was a charter member of the "PEP" club, the Magnolia Garden Club, the Tea and Topics Literary Society, and the Country Scootin' Boots line dance group. She was a member of Senior Friends and enjoyed volunteer work, working in her flower beds, and spending time with her family.
She is survived by three sons: John Russell Chapman (Danette) of Walterboro, Thomas Jefferson Chapman (Anne) of Florence, and Michael Lee Chapman (Myra) of Clayton, GA. She has eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. She also leaves behind a half nephew Roy Russell of Washington State.
Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday morning, August 18, 2020 at 11:00 at the Live Oak Cemetery in Walterboro. In consideration of the coronavirus pandemic, social distancing will be encouraged with all of those in attendance. Memorials may be sent to Bethel Presbyterian Church, 304 Church Street, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
