Obituary

WALTERBORO: Bessie Marie Herndon Jackson Bartlett, widow of both the late James D. Jackson and the late Douglas Avery Bartlett, passed away at her home Thursday surrounded by her family under the care of Hospice Care of South Carolina. She was 99.


Mrs. Bartlett was born in Baxley, GA January 8, 1917 a daughter of the late James Wylie "Jim" Herndon and Mollie Morgan Herndon. She was a retired waitress and cotton mill worker, and was a member of the Walterboro Church of God.

She is survived by her children: James D. Jackson Jr., Jerry Jackson, Janadell Maldonado-Harris, Ruth Delancey, and Judy Black. She has sixteen grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by two children, Ruby Jackson and Johnnie Williams.


Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 11:00 in the chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home. Committal services will be held that afternoon at 2:00 at the Beaufort National Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:00 Monday morning at the chapel.
