Obituary

RUFFIN :     Mrs. Betty P. Kane, wife of Melvin H. Kane, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 3, 2020 at the Pruitt Health Care Center.  She was 83.

Mrs. Kane was born in Louisville, Kentucky March 2, 1937 a daughter of the late Gordon and Louella Vernon Probst.  She and her husband were very active in the Boy Scouts of America, and she was his primary assistant and helper in his management of Camp Ho Non Wah in Charleston for many years.  Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and was known for her kindness and her caring demeanor.  She possessed all of the qualities of a true Christian woman, and was an active member of the Ruffin Baptist Church before her health declined.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son Donald Gordon Kane (Robin) of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, by her grandchildren Preston (Alex) and Molly Kane, and by her great-grandchildren Winnie and Solly Kane.  She leaves behind her devoted daughter-in-law Debra Kane O'Quinn (Mack) of Walterboro, her sisters-in law Eunice George and Sunnie George, as well as a host of nieces and nephews that dearly loved "Aunt Betty".  She was preceded in death by her son Harold E. Kane, by her five siblings, and by her granddaughter Mary Beth Kane.

The family will receive friends during a time of visitation Sunday afternoon, December 6, 2020 beginning at 2:00 at Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro. Mrs. Kane will be interred at the Chattanooga National Cemetery in Chattanooga, TN.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ruffin Baptist Church.
