COTTAGEVILLE: Mr. George William "Billy" Hughes, husband of Frances Addison Hughes, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2020 at the Medical University of South Carolina.  He was 74.

Billy was born at Parris Island, South Carolina October 15, 1945 a son of Bessie Lee Smyly Hughes and Charles Bert Hughes Sr…who was a Drill Sergeant in the Marine Corps at the time.  When his country called upon him, he followed in his father's footstep's, and served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.  After returning to the states, he was trained as a welder, and later served as a quality control manager and purchasing agent at various companies.  Billy was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Michelle

Hughes Stockman of Walterboro, his step-daughter Rebecca B. Page (Jaime) of Lexington, and his step-son Scott Bruins (Karen) of Eden, NC.

There are eight grandchildren:  Tyler and Chase Stockman, Tyler, Jacob and Daniel Bruins, and Cameron, McKenzie and Kaiden Page.  Billy has one brother, Marion Hughes (Judy) of Simpsonville and one sister, Barbara Bokman of Barnwell.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Charles Hughes Jr.
