WALTERBORO : Mr. Eugene William "Billy" Sanders, Jr., husband of Grace Crosby Sanders, passed away Friday afternoon, November 19, 2021 at his home in Walterboro, under hospice care, with his family beside him. He was 94.
Mr. Sanders was born in Walterboro August 30, 1927 a son of the late Eugene William Sanders and Lillie Belle Berry Sanders. He was the retired Vice-President of Purchasing for Coastal Foods, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Walterboro, where he had served as a Deacon. Mr. Sanders also served in the occupational forces while in the Army.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Sanders is survived by his sons, Stephen Eugene "Steve" Sanders (Betty Llew) of Walterboro, and Eugene William "Sandy" Sanders III (Carol) of Charleston. He leaves behind his grandchildren: Caroline Hooker (Matt) who took special care of him, Ellyn Alexander (John), Faye Whitehead (Brad), Elizabeth Varn, Henry Varn Jr., Sarah Sanders, and Sydney Sanders. There are seven great-grandchildren, and his son-in-law Henry Varn. He is survived by one who he thought of as a daughter, Beverly Harrison. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sanders was preceded in death by his daughter Rebecca "Becky" Sanders Varn, and by his sisters Evelyn S. Wullner and Betty S. Rhodes.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers Carolyn, LaDana, Estelle, and Kay, and Beverly. Also to Amedysis Hospice and its nurses (especially Heather and Matthew), for the excellent care they all gave to Mr. Sanders during his illness and passing.
Graveside funeral services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Connie Maxwell Children's Home, P.O.B. 1178, Greenwood, SC 29648 or to the First Baptist Church of Walterboro, P.O.B. 650, Walterboro, SC 29488. Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
