Mrs. Blanche Nettles Benton, wife of James D. "J.D." Benton, passed away Friday morning at the home of her daughter in Summerville surrounded by her family, under the care of Hospice of Charleston. She was 80.

Mrs. Nettles was born in Ruffin October 17, 1935 a daughter of the late Van and Sarah Nettles Nettles. She was a merchandise control supervisor for the Department of Defense for many years, and also worked for SCDHPT in Colleton County. She was an active member of the Pine Grove Baptist Church, and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to cook, and was known for her favorite creation, elbow macaroni and cheese.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Cathy Rodriguez (Roger) of Summerville, and by her grandchildren Nina, Jesse and Leyla. She has one sister, Florence Simpson of West Virginia and she was preceded in death by her son Duffie Benton.

Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 11:00 in the Pine Grove Baptist Church, with burial following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 in the church sanctuary. Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home of Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
