COTTAGEVILLE:     Mr. Robert L. Addison Jr., husband of Leona "Lee" Peppleman Addison, passed away Wednesday morning, August 13, 2025 at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.  He was 91.

"Bobby", as he was affectionately known by his family and friends, was born in Cottageville July 11, 1934 a son of the late Robert Lawrence Addison, and the late Vivian Gruber Addison.  In the Fall of 1952, after graduating from high school, he enrolled at Clemson…which was then a military college.  With the unwavering support of his parents, he received both his BS and MS degrees from there, and embarked on a career with the federal government that would have otherwise been impossible.  He became a statistician for the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), a division of the Department of Agriculture.  The agency had one office in each state, and Bobby worked in the South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, and California offices.  He met his first wife, Margie Ann Holman, while stationed in the Alabama office.  In 1990, while working at the headquarters of NASS in Washington, DC, they both accepted an assignment in Islamabad, Pakistan.  Bobby always said his time there was the best five years of his career, and that working in such an impoverished country changed his perception of life forever.  He retired at the American Embassy there in 1994.

Bobby enjoyed different experiences, and seeing other places.  Throughout his life he traveled to over 23 countries including Egypt, India, Russia, Ireland, Nova Scotia, Holland and England to name just a few.  One of his favorite times was spent in Africa visiting the game parks in Tanzania, Kenya, and Zimbabwe.

Bobby had a number of hobbies during his life.  He enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing on the beautiful and majestic blackwaters of the Edisto River.  He was an avid photographer and an excellent woodworker.  He took great joy in refinishing antique furniture and restoring it to its former beautiful and useful life.  He relished classic country music and dancing to the rhythm of a good bluegrass band.

Bobby remarried in 2003 to Leona Marie "Lee" Peppleman.  He treated her children Linda and Raymond as his own.  At the time of his passing, he and Lee had been married for 22 years.

Mr. Addison is survived by his beloved wife Lee, by his step-daughter Linda Lucas (Jimmy), by his brother-in-law, Retired Commander William Hayne (USN), by his sister-in-law Lorene Headden Addison, and by a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, George Randolph Addison Sr., by his sisters, Betty Addison Hamlet and Jackie Addison Hayne, and by a step-son, Raymond W. Billbrough Jr.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon, August 16, 2025 at 2:00, in the chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, with burial following at the Jordan Cemetery in Cottageville.  The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 at the funeral home.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
