NORTH CHARLESTON: Mrs. Bonnie Smith Ketchie, wife of Norman Ketchie, and formerly of Walterboro, passed away Thursday afternoon at Trident Hospital after a brief illness. She was 76.

Bonnie was born in Smoaks, SC July 23, 1940 a daughter of the late A.P. Smith Jr. and Elizabeth Black Smith. She was a retired case worker for the Social Security Administration, and was an active member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Walterboro, before moving her membership to the Bethany United Methodist Church in Summerville, after she and Norman relocated to North Charleston. Bonnie was a caring and generous person who was always concerned about the well-being of others. For many years she served as a church pianist and she loved to read, having been involved in various book clubs both in Walterboro and at the Elms of Charleston.

In addition to her husband Norman, she is survived by her children: Gay Prosser (Dale) and Joy Hardy (Robert) of Goose Creek, Shannon Ketchie (Pam) of Charlotte, and Lisa Shelnutt (Doug) of Dahlonega, GA. She has two sisters, Elaine Case of Irmo, and Sarah Padgett of Walterboro. Bonnie has seven grandchildren: Paige and Jackson Hardee, Matt Prosser, Wesley and Joseph Shelnutt, Melissa Beggs, and Madison Ketchie. She was preceded in death by a son, Wesley Ketchie.

A time of visitation will be held Sunday afternoon, February 5, 2017 from 3-5 PM at the Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro. A memorial service will be held Monday afternoon at 4:00 at the Clubhouse at the Elms of Charleston, 9100 Elms Plantation Blvd., North Charleston, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice. Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home of Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
