WALTERBORO:     Mrs. Bonnie J. McGinnis, wife of Billy J. McGinnis, passed away Tuesday morning, January 21, 2025 at the Pruitt Healthcare Center in Walterboro.  She was 85.

Mrs. McGinnis was born in Brunswick, GA January 27, 1939 one of eight children of the late Floyd and Arna Elizabeth White McGill.  She graduated from high school in 1957, and then received training as a dental assistant.  After moving to Walterboro, she spent thirty-eight years in the dental field and worked for several local dentists, including Dr. John Tennant, Dr. Leanna Bulan, and Dr. Sam Hazel, before retiring from  Dr. Shannon Pye's office.  In 2002 she was honored to be selected as the Press and Standard's Reader's Choice for Best Dental Assistant.  Mrs. McGinnis was involved with several churches over her lifetime including the Church of the Nazarene and Zion Baptist Church, before becoming an active member of the First Baptist Church of Walterboro, where she taught Sunday School.  She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

In addition to her husband of sixty-five years, she is survived by her daughters Marsha Frazier (Dale) of Spartanburg, and Melody Saulnier (David) of Charleston.  There are three grandchildren:  McGinnis Frazier, and Emily and Hannah Saulnier.  She leaves behind her sister Mary Alice McGill.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six siblings:  Mildred Boyd, Joyce Campbell, Elizabeth Laws, Don McGill, Wendell McGill, and Floyd McGill.  The family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation to the staff of Pruitt Healthcare Center for the care given to Mrs. McGinnis during her time as a resident.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon, January 26, 2025 at 3:00 at the First Baptist Church of Walterboro, with burial following in the Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary beginning at 2:00.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
