SMOAKS :     Mrs. Bonnie Crosby Strickland, wife of the late John Gilmore Strickland Jr., passed away Friday morning, April 24, 2020 at the Lowman Home in Chapin.  She was 83.

Mrs. Strickland was born in Colleton County October 8, 1936 a daughter of the late Mondell and Cornelia Nettles Crosby.  She was a devoted wife and mother, and spent her life as a homemaker, always caring for her family with the upmost attention.  She was well-known for ministering to the needs of her extended family, and those in the community that needed help as well.  Mrs. Strickland also helped her husband John in his insurance and service station businesses as his bookkeeper. She was an active member of the Williams United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Strickland is survived by her children, Brian Strickland (Emily) of Greenville, and Renee Strickland Lowder (Wade) of Chapin.  There are six grandchildren:  Brantley Strickland (Amie), Ross and Connor Lowder, Ryne (Emilee) and Josh Strickland, and Katie O'Donnell (Sean).  There are four great-grandchildren:  James Dawson Strickland, and Christian, Penny, and Michael O'Donnell.  Mrs. Strickland leaves behind a brother, Daniel M. Crosby (Lynah), a sister Neyle Robertson, and a daughter-in-law Janet Strickland.  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, John Daniel Strickland, and by a sister Ginger Crosby.

In consideration of the circumstances that currently exist in the state and nation with the coronavirus pandemic, and with the health and safety of the community in mind, a private graveside service will be held at the Williams Cemetery, where Mrs. Strickland will be interred beside her late husband.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Williams Cemetery.  Parker-Rhoden funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
