WALTERBORO : Wendy Brooke Benton Goodwin, wife of the late William Todd Goodwin, passed away Thursday, February 4, 2021 at the Medical University of South Carolina. She was 44.
Brooke was born in Colleton County September 2, 1976 a daughter of Teresa Benton Hatchell and the late Wendell "Wendy" Benton. Her father lovingly called her "Pitty Patty" throughout her life, and during High School she was a cheerleader, and had participated in numerous beauty pageants and clogging competitions. For many years she worked at Shoney's in Walterboro as a waitress, and was known for her smile and her outgoing personality. Brooke could be stubborn, but would always give you her honest opinion whether you wanted it or not. She had attended Pine Grove Baptist Church, and was a devoted wife, mother, daughter and friend. She will truly be missed.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her son Cody Lane Goodwin, and by her step-son William Tyler Goodwin. She has a brother Trent Benton, a sister Opal Benton, and her step-mother Debbie Benton. Brooke leaves behind her maternal grandfather Franklin "Bunky" Varnadoe, and two loving nieces that referred to her affectionately as "Uncle Brooke", River Peters and Banks Benton. She has a step-brother Trent Jones (Monica) and a step-sister Lexie Hiers (Bryan). There is a host of loving cousins and extended family. In addition to her father and her husband, Brooke was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother Catherine Varnadoe, and by her paternal grandparents Clifton and Edna Benton. All of her family will attest to the fact that Brooke loved…more than any of them…her beloved dog "Gizzy".
A celebration of her life will be held Monday evening, February 8, 2021 at 5:00 in the chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service until 8:00 PM. Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
