COTTAGEVILLE: Mr. George "Buck" Reeves, husband of Faye Weatherford Reeves, passed away at his home in Cottageville Thursday morning, April 30, 2020 under the care of Amedysis Hospice.  He was 87.

Mr. Reeves was born in Cottageville March 21, 1933 a son of the late Robert Louis McKeiver Reeves and Nell Carter Reeves.  He graduated from Cottageville High School, and immediately entered the United States Air Force, where he faithfully served his country for twenty years, and retired as a Master Sergeant.

"Buck" was a Christian and a "Man of God".  He took courses in Theology and Ministry, and served as the minister at both Bethlehem Baptist Church in Round O, and Adams Run Baptist Church.  He also served as a pastor at countless revivals, and assisted various churches as a fill-in minister.  He was an active member of Cottageville Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon, a Sunday School Teacher, and Bible Study Leader.

"Buck" was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish.  He was a lifelong member of the Jenkins Hunting Club.   He was so fond of the camaraderie and fellowship that many times he wouldn't even take a gun…preferring instead to talk and laugh on the truck tailgates with his friends.   "Buck" loved the earth God had created, and spent years farming the land and growing crops.  One of his favorite pastimes was being on the Edisto River.

"Buck" was a hard worker.  In addition to serving in the military and preaching, he worked for a period of time at the Round O Milling Company.  He was also an Environmental Control Officer with the Colleton County Sheriff's Department.

In addition to his wife of twenty-eight years, he is survived by his children:  Steven Reeves, Margie Reeves Robertson (Eddie), Van Berry, and Jason Berry (Jackie) all of Cottageville, and Billy Berry (Jennifer) of Walterboro.  He has one sister, Mary "Betty" Newton of Walterboro, a sister-in-law Dorothy Reeves, of Walterboro, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by his first wife, Betty Blanton Reeves.  "Buck" was preceded in death by two children, George Keith Reeves and Maggie Raylene Reeves, who died as infants, by two brothers, William "Billy" Reeves and Marion Reeves, and by a sister Nell Reeves Ford.

In consideration of the health situation that currently exists in the state and nation, and with the health and well-being of the community in mind, a private graveside service will be held for Mr. Reeves at the Ackerman Cemetery at Round O.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
