Mr. William W. "Buddy" Ackerman Sr., devoted husband of Christine O'Quinn Ackerman, passed away Thursday evening, October 26, 2023 at the Veteran's Victory House in Walterboro. He was 89.
Mr. Ackerman was born in Cottageville May 30, 1934 a son of the late George Washington "G.W." Ackerman and Sallie Mae Warren Ackerman. He was a proud veteran of the United States Coast Guard, and after his discharge from active duty in 1954, he married the love of his life Christine O'Quinn. They shared sixty-nine wonderful years together, and were blessed with two sons, five grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Ackerman worked alongside his father in the family business…Ackerman Well Drilling…his entire adult life. In addition to that, he was led by God as a young man to become a bi-vocational minister in the Pentecostal Holiness Church. Throughout his years in ministry, he served in many churches throughout Colleton County and the Lowcountry of South Carolina. He was a true Christian man who was a devoted husband, father and grandfather…as well as a friend to all that knew him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, William W. "Billy" Ackerman Jr. (Donna) and George Ackerman. There are six grandchildren: Gordon Ackerman, Christie Ackerman, Katrina Coker (Kyle), Regina Odum (Roger), and Ashley "Woody" Ackerman. There are twelve great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
Graveside funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon, October 29, 2023 at 3:00 at the Ackerman Cemetery at Red Oak, and the family will receive friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall of the Cottageville Community Church in Cottageville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made online to the Wounded Warrior Project. Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
