SMOAKS :     Mr. Calbern Bates Myers, husband of Elvenia F. Myers, passed away at his home under hospice care Wednesday evening, June 29, 2022 with his family beside him.  He was 91.

Mr. Myers was born September 9, 1930 on the same property where he died, a son of the late Walter and Clara Mims Myers.  He spent his working career as a highway construction contractor…his very first project being the road in front of his home.  He was a farmer at heart, and plowed with a mule as a boy on the family farm before the evolution of tractors.  He was active with his garden until recently, and was known throughout the area for the wonderful vegetables he grew and shared with the community.  Mr. Myers loved to square dance, and attended Smoaks Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Ralph Helmey, Caddie Richardson, and Reuben Myers.  He has seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.  He leaves behind his sister Frances Beach and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.  He was preceded in death by his daughter Deborah Myers Mock.

Mr. Myers will be laid to rest in a simple graveside service on Friday, July 1, 2022 at 10:00 AM at the Myers Family Cemetery.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
