WALTERBORO :     Mr. Carroll E. Griffin, husband of Terry Carter Griffin, passed away Monday evening at his home under hospice care with his family by his side.  He was 82.

Carroll was born in Colleton County June 19, 1939 a son of the late Laurie Eugene Griffin and Effie Ritter Griffin.  He was a 1957 graduate of Hendersonville High School and a 1963 graduate of the University of South Carolina.  For over thirty years he was an accountant and partner in the firm of Griffin, Beach and Company.  In 1993, he purchased Wildwood Nurseries, and owned and operated it faithfully until his passing.

Carroll was active in his community.  He was a member of the Rotary Club…where he was a Paul Harris Fellow.  He was a founding board member of John C. Calhoun Academy, and had served as a past-president of the South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants.  Carroll loved helping others, and throughout his life regularly donated blood, achieving the goal of almost ten gallons.  He served on the Edisto Open Land Trust, and was a real-estate broker, a certified nursery professional, and a residential contractor.  Above all else however, he was a devoted and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend.

In addition to his wife of 32 years, he is survived by his children:  Carroll E. "Cal" Griffin Jr. (Prissy), Jill Burttram (Tracy) and Stephany Bates. He leaves behind ten grandchildren:  Callie, Gracie, and Clay Griffin, Jennings, Olivia, and Jake Burttram, and Kadee, Ryan, Phillip, and Brandon Muth.  He has a special niece, Kym Murdaugh (Dave).  In addition to his parents, Carroll was preceded in death by his sister June Hudson, and by his nephew Kent Boone. He is also survived by his special friends and co-workers at the nursery Sanchez Amadeo, Charlie Holmes, and Buddy Stone.

In consideration of the recent surge in cases of the coronavirus, and with the health and safety of the community in mind, the family has decided to hold a public celebration of Carroll's life at a later date, which will be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Red Cross or to Truth Ministries, the Christian based Haiti relief organization. Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
