WALTERBORO :  Mr. Charles F. Cummings Jr., husband of Carolyn Elizabeth Smith Cummings, passed away Monday morning, April 5, 2021 at his home under hospice care, with his family by his side, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.  He was 78.

Mr. Cummings was born in Colleton County August 7, 1942 a son of the late Charles F. Cummings Sr. and Florence Beach Cummings. For thirty-four years he was the owner and operator of Bargain Furniture in Walterboro, and after retirement, worked at Clean Management for another twenty years.  Mr. Cummings was an avid outdoors-man with a deep appreciation and admiration for God's natural creation.  He was the "Hunt Master" and president of Big Hill Hunting Club for many years, and relished the camaraderie and fellowship shared with its members.  Hunting with hounds was the only deer hunting he enjoyed, and often joked that "Still Hunting" was cheating.  For many years he served as a Deputy Game Warden for Colleton County.

Mr. Cummings was a Christian man that based his life, and his relationships with his fellow man, upon God's word.  He was a lifelong member of of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, where he served as a Sunday School Teacher and lay speaker.  He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

In addition to his wife of fifty-eight years, Mr. Cummings is survived by four sons:  Charles F. "Chuck" Cummings III (Lucy), Scott Cummings, Todd Cummings (Mary Foster), and Chad Cummings (Danielle), all of Walterboro.  He has one brother, Lewis Cummings, eight Grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Wayne Cummings.

Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday morning, April 8, 2021 at 11:00 at the Mount Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mount Carmel UMC c/o Maxine Beach, 965 Burlington Road, Walterboro, SC  29488.   Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
