WALTERBORO: Mr. Charles Franklin Spurlock, husband of the late JoDean Whitacre Spurlock, peaceably passed away Monday, March 14, 2016 at the Veterans Victory House in Walterboro, SC. He was 89 years old.
Mr. Spurlock was born in Minneapolis, Kansas January 21, 1927, son of the late James Washington Spurlock and Lura Harbaugh Spurlock. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, and later attended the College of Emporia. He was the founder and president of Empire General Life Insurance Company of Texas.
He is survived by his children: Carolyn S. Giffen of Dallas, Nancy S. Traynor (Al) of Charleston, Charles W. Spurlock (Lourdes Stokes) of Dallas. He leaves behind his siblings: David Spurlock (Helen) of Florida, and Nancy Haddock (Dean) of Kansas. There are four grandchildren: Daniel Giffen (Emily), Scott Giffen (Yvi Martin), Ryan Giffen (Danica), and Kimberly Traynor (John Davis). Mr. Spurlock is also survived by nine great-grandchildren: Britton, Lia Kate, Collins, Ezekiel, Lazarus, Will, Eli, and Jad Giffen and Scarlett T. Davis. In addition to his wife of fifty-five years, he was preceded in death by his brother Paul Spurlock and son-in-law, Douglas Giffen.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning March 24, 2016 at the Tyler Street United Methodist Church in Dallas, TX at 10:00 AM. Burial, with military honors, will be held that afternoon at 2:30 at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home of Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
