RUFFIN :    Mr. Charles Herbert Valentine Jr., 75, of Ruffin, entered into eternal rest Tuesday afternoon, March 8, 2022 at the Colleton Medical Center.

Born January 31, 1947 in Columbia, he was the son of the late Herbert Valentine and Mary Ellen Valentine.  He moved to Ruffin when he was seven.  He graduated from Bells High School and attended Baptist College.  He worked as a small business owner of C&G Tire and others, and later  worked at A1 Tire.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a fan of the Carolina Gamecocks.  His best friend was his brown Labrador retriever Charlie.

Surviving are his wife of fifty years Gloria Smyly Valentine, and daughters Charla Connelly (Eddie), Carmon Jones (Eric) and Cara Cook (Tyler).  His pride and joy were his six grandchildren:  Bailey and Emma Connelly, Garrick and Maddie Jones, and Wyatt and Beau Cook. He has two sisters, Dee Ann DuBoise and Myrtle Valentine, as well as his sister and brother-in-law Donna Smyly Myrick and Roger Myrick, a nephew Ryan Myrick (Susan) a niece Rebecca Smith (Brabham), great-nephews Parker and Thomas Myrick, and a great niece Sanders Myrick.  There is a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon, March 11, 2022 at 2:00 in the St. John United Methodist Church in Ruffin, with burial following in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Walterboro.  The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 in the church sanctuary.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. John United Methodist Church, c/o Angela Maxey, 1145 Getha Road, Ruffin, SC 29475, where he was a member and served as a trustee.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
