Charles "Charlie" R. Wilson, Jr., 81, passed away peacefully in his sleep at Veterans Victory House in Walterboro, SC on November 15, 2015.


He was born on March 8, 1934 in Camden, NJ. He lived in Gloucester, NJ and then Medford, NJ with his family until 2005 when he moved to Murrell's Inlet, SC with his wife Alice.

Predeceased by his parents, Charles R. Wilson and Ethel Alt, he is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Alice Wilson of Murrell's Inlet, SC, his sister, Doris Rafferty, of Vacaville, CA, his daughters, Lynne Gally (Marlton, NJ), Karen O'Kane (Robbinsville, NJ), Wendy Marchke (Suwannee, GA), his son, Wayne Wilson (Eugene, OR), his son-in-laws, Tom O'Kane (Robbinsville, NJ), Paul Marschke (Suwannee, GA) and 7 grandchildren, Meghan, Jacqueline and Jamie Gally; Mollie and Kyle O'Kane; Kenneth and Kimberly Marschke. Also, several nieces and nephews.

He graduated from Merchantsville High School and held a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Drexel University and a master's degree in Electrical Engineering from Widener University.

He served 4 years in the US Army in the late 1950s and then worked at General Electric, Lakehurst Air & Naval base as a mechanical engineer, and Monmouth Army base as an electrical engineer. Charlie had a 40 year career serving his country as a civilian engineer, spent time aboard prestigious battleships like the USS Nimitz and developed advanced weaponry systems.

Charlie coached his children in various sports and enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow up. He documented family holidays, birthdays and special events in his own family publication, called "The Wilsonian." He was an avid bowler and belonged to various leagues over the years. He was a very passionate Philadelphia Phillies and Philadelphia Eagles fan. Charlie enjoyed swimming in his pool and swimming and body-surfing in the ocean. He enjoyed vacationing in Myrtle Beach, SC with his family for many years.

Charlie will be best known for being a loving and kind husband, father, grandfather, and a friend. The family will host a memorial gathering in NJ to honor and celebrate Charlie's life sometime in the near future. The family encourages people to donate to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
