WALTERBORO :     Cynthia "Cindy" Johnson-Courtney passed away Thursday, May 1, 2019 at Roper Hospital in Charleston with her daughters by her side.  She was 55.

Cindy was born in Madrid, Spain July 10, 1963 a daughter of the late Joseph Johnson and Juanita Abel Johnson.  For almost 20 years she was a well-known dispatcher for the Hardeeville Police Department, and most recently worked as a certified nursing assistant for the Veteran's Victory House in Walterboro.  She was a devoted friend to many people, and considered them her extended family.  Cindy was a devoted mother and always put the needs of her family ahead of her own, and she loved animals, always giving a home to neglected and stray dogs and cats when her health allowed her.  She will truly be missed.

She is survived by three children:  Joshua Denmark of Lake City, and Destiny Johnson (Ashley) and Jaime Fitch (Dustin) of Walterboro.  She leaves behind two grandchildren, Christian and Caiden Fitch, and a special friend Cindy Sandy.

Funeral services will be held Monday evening, May 6, 2019 at 5:30 in the chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro.  The family will receive friends during a time of visitation immediately following the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hollings Cancer Center at MUSC, or to the Friends of the Colleton County Animal Shelter (FOCCAS).
