WALTERBORO :     Mrs. Claire Chassereau Smoak, wife of Kenneth E. Smoak, passed away Monday morning, March 13, 2023 at Ashley Gardens in Charleston.  She was 76.

Claire was born in Ridgeland July 12, 1946 a daughter of the late William Dallie Chassereau and Lurlene Mixon Chassereau.  She spent her childhood and youth in Hampton, and graduated from Wade Hampton High School, before attending and graduating from Winthrop College.  Claire was a teacher in the Colleton County Public School System, and retired from Forest Hills Elementary.  She was a member of Doctor's Creek Baptist Church, and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Sonja Bowles (Mike) of Walterboro, and by five grandchildren:  Trevor, Gracie and Sam Bowles, and Riley and Ellison Smoak.  She is also survived by her sister, Connie Wooten.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Daryl Smoak, and by her grandson Cooper Smoak.  She will be missed by her beloved companion, her Dachshund "Booger".

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon, March 17, 2023 at 2:00 in the chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, with burial following at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00.
