Obituary

WALTERBORO:     Claude M. Gibson Jr., beloved husband of Laurie Mitchell Gibson, passed away Monday evening, November 3, 2025 at the Colleton Medical Center with his wife, and his devoted caregiver Nikki Ferguson, by his side.  He was 57.

Claude was born in Savannah, GA December 4, 1967 a son of Shirley LeGrand Gibson and the late Claude M. Gibson Sr.   At an early age, he learned the value of hard work, and was employed with various companies and businesses over the years, before establishing  his own company, Gibson Trucking Inc.  He was devoted to it, and ensured that every goal was met to achieve its success.  In 2008, a tragic accident while camping with his family left Claude paralyzed.  Throughout the years since then, he always maintained a positive outlook on life, and never let his disability hold him back.  In fact, many people thought it made him stronger, and he was an inspiration to everyone he met.  He still spent time outdoors hunting and camping but the most important thing to him was the time he spent with his parents, his wife, his children and grandchildren.  They were his never ending source of joy and support.

In addition to his mother and his wife, Claude is survived by his children Nadia Canady (Ashton), and Claude M. Gibson III (Jalyn).  He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren Jaxson, Gracelyn and Blythe, as well as his devoted caregiver Nikki Ferguson, who promised him that she would not quit caring for him until he left this world.  In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister Jannet Marie Gibson.

The family will receive friends during a time of visitation Thursday evening, November 6, 2025 from 5:00 until 7:00 at Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Disabled Outfitters, c/o Julian Ohmer, P.O.Box 107, Williams, SC  29493.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home of Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
