Obituary

WALTERBORO: Mr. Claude M. Gibson Sr., husband of Shirley LeGrand Gibson, passed away Saturday afternoon at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. He was 66.


Mr. Gibson was born in Ridgeland April 20, 2015 a son of Cecile Louise Jannet Gibson and the late Ronald Carl Gibson. For many years he was a well-known meat cutter for the Big Star Grocery Store. After its closure, he used his skills as a carpenter to open his own business called Gibson Home Repairs. He was also an employee of Dean Building Supply. Mr. Gibson was a member of the Walterboro Elks lodge, and was a devoted husband and father who especially loved spending time with his grandson fishing.


In addition to his mother of Savannah and his wife of their home, he is survived by his son, Claude M. Gibson Jr., and wife Lori, of Walterboro. There are two grandchildren: Nadia Bowlin and Claude M. Gibson III. He was preceded in death by his father, and by a daughter, Jannet Marie Gibson.

The family will receive friends at the Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home Monday evening, October 12, 2015 from 6-8 PM. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either the American Heart Association or the American Kidney Foundation.
