Johns Island: Mrs. Sarah "Coleen" Harbison Felty, wife of David John Felty, passed away Saturday afternoon, November 23, 2024, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC after a brief illness.
Her life was filled with creativity, music, laughter and love. She was a professional nail artist for over 30 years and proprietor of Trendz Salon and Love My Nails. She loved to paint and garden.
She was a semi-professional Clarinetist throughout her adult life. She was a founding member, and for many years, the president of the Spartanburg Community Band. She loved playing in the orchestra, singing in the Choir and the Handbell Choir at First Baptist Church Spartanburg. She was also a member of the Furman Wind Ensemble, Greenville Textile Heritage Band, and the Converse Wind Ensemble. Her music was her favorite way of worshipping and praising God.
She never knew a stranger and made friends everywhere she went. She loved to travel. Her favorite places to be were Charleston, SC and Silver Sands, Jamaica.
She was so very loved. She was a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, great-aunt, and great, great-aunt. Coleen is predeceased by her mother, Betty L. Harbison, and brother, James O. "Jody" Harbison, III.
She is survived by her husband, David J. Felty, her oldest daughter, Leslie E. Horton of Lyman, SC, her son, David J. Felty, II (Amanda) of Wellford, SC, and her youngest daughter, Mary E. "Betsy" Belue (Cody) of Lyman, SC. She was the grandmother of Jonathan D. "Cody" Felty (Ashley) of Greenville, SC, Aaron Z. "Zach" Felty of Wellford, SC, Catherine E. "Cat" Belue of Lyman, SC, Gabriella E. "Gabby" Felty of Wellford, SC, and Matthew D. Belue of Lyman, SC.
She is also survived by her father, James O. "Jim" Harbison, Jr. of Spartanburg, SC, and her two younger sisters, Lisa H. Langdale (Ben) of Walterboro, SC, and Catherine "Katie" H. Smith (Mark) of Spartanburg, SC, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and great-great nephews.
Please join us for a celebration of life service Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at 6 PM at First Baptist Church Lyman, 80 Groce Rd, Lyman, SC 29365. Receiving of friends will be from 5:30-6:00. In honor of Coleen's love of the beach and anything tropical, please feel free to come in tropical shirts and tropical leis.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Spartanburg Community Band or any of your local music programs in memorial of Coleen.
