Obituary

ELGIN, SC : David Turner, husband of Sharon Hayden Turner, passed away Sunday evening, January 17, 2021 at the Prisma Health Richland Hospital in Columbia. He was 73.

David was born February 4, 1947 in Philadelphia, PA, a son of the late William Turner Sr., and Roberta Kirkpatrick Turner. He graduated from Walterboro High School in 1965, attended Montreat College for a period of time, and later graduated from Newberry College in 1969.  He served in the South Carolina Army National Guard, was a past-president of the Walterboro Civitans Club, and was a former member of the Walterboro Elk's Lodge #1988.  David was employed in the lumber industry for many years at both Upchurch Forest Products, and The Edisto Lumber Company in Orangeburg, SC.  He loved all University of South Carolina Gamecock sports, playing golf, listening to beach music, and grilling with his family. David was a member of Spring Valley Presbyterian Church in Columbia.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons Chris Turner (Erin) of Lake St. Louis, MO, and Michael Turner (Candice Radford) of Conway. He has two grandchildren, Madison and Caden Turner of Lake St. Louis, MO.  David was preceded in death this past Thursday by his brother William "Billy" Turner Jr.

Due to the current situation that exists in the nation, state and county with the coronavirus pandemic, the family will conduct a private graveside service at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Walterboro.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
