WALTERBORO: Donald Henderson Fraser, husband of Eleuthera "Eleu" Miller Fraser, entered into his Savior's loving arms Friday evening, November 13, 2015. He was 90.

Mr. Fraser was born in Walterboro September 11, 1925 a son of the late Charles Henderson Fraser and Pauline Dominick Fraser. He was a US Navy veteran of WWII, and after completing ROTC training at Wofford College, he was sent to Oklahoma to learn Japanese, where he became interested in the plight of minorities. He was called back to active duty during the Korean War as a Lieutenant in Intelligence under Commander Naval Forces Far East, stationed in Japan.

Mr. Fraser was a graduate of Wofford College and the Duke Law School. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Kappa Sigma. While a student at Duke he met "Eleu" Miller, and they were married July 28, 1950. He joined the Jefferies, McLeod, Unger Law Firm in 1950, and later became a partner. He retired in 2012 and received a fifty year gold pin from the American Bar Association.


Mr. Fraser was an active member of the Walterboro community. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Elks Lodge, the Rotary Club, and was a lifelong member of Bethel Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed crafting historically accurate military models and miniature soldiers, swimming with his children and grandchildren, and bicycling around Walterboro. He was an avid golfer, was a member of the "Hole-in-One" club, and was both an Eagle Scout and a Scoutmaster. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and amazing grandfather, and the ultimate southern gentleman. He was loved by all who knew him, and always started his initial conversation with anybody he met by simply asking "Are you from around here…Perhaps I know your family".

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Donald Henderson Fraser Jr. of Seneca, SC and Eleuthera "Ellie" McCalmont Braddock of Charleston.There are three grandchildren: Rebekah Braddock Marts, Jonathan Braddock, and Hannah Braddock, all of Charleston.


The family will receive friends during a time of visitation Tuesday evening from 6-8 PM at the Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home of Walterboro. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bethel Presbyterain Church Community Outreach Program.
