Obituary

Mr. Donald McCaw, 94, of Walterboro, entered into his eternal rest Thursday evening, November 21st, 2024, surrounded by love and family.

Mr. McCaw, son of late John and Elise McCaw., and beloved brother of late Norman, James, Robert and Gilbert McCaw, was born in Providence R.I. on August 10, 1930. Don was a soft-spoken man with a calm demeanor and attitude.

He worked as a railroad operator, and was remembered for his and his wife's, Janet McCaw's, efforts for opening and managing Samaritan's Way...an assisted living facility and home for mentally handicapped women in Walterboro. They were truly a blessing to the lives of many women in Colleton County.  Also, he possessed a strong knowledge in locksmith services.

He will be remembered for his hard work ethic, strong devotion to his family, and the dedication and love he had for his lord and savior, Jesus Christ. He was a committed Christian, loving husband, father, and grandfather. His family was his main concern, and his wife and children were the shining lights of his life. They were married 61 years, with 5 children between them both.

Donald McCaw leaves behind his beloved wife, Janet McCaw, sons, Robert McCaw (Bobby), and wife Mary, Kevin McCaw, and wife Jinky, David McCaw, and wife Susan, and daughters, Tammy Shuman and the late, Donna McCaw. Carrying on his legacy of light and love, 18 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. There are a great number of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and colleagues. Preceding him in death are his parents, brothers, beloved daughter, one grandson, and two great grand-daughters.

Donald McCaw was a member of Bedon Baptist Church. Mrs. Janet McCaw would like to extend a special thank you to the friends and family of Bedon, who remembered them in prayer during his transition of life, and another special thank you to Edisto Hospice, and home health care nurse Mona, for her support, assistance and unwavering faith during Donald McCaw's short time in hospice care.

A celebration of life service will be held at Bedon Baptist Church on Saturday morning, December 14, 2024 at 11:00.  In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorials in his memory be made to Saint Jude's Children's Hospital.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro, is in charge of arrangements.
