WILLIAMS: Mrs. Dovie Priester Schumacher, a retired Civil Service employee with the Sixth Naval District in Charleston, died Monday, June 4, 2018 at the Rapha Residential Care Center in Gaston, SC.
Mrs. Schumacher was born in the Ruffin-Bethel section of Colleton County, a daughter of the late Oscar J. and Matilda Crosby Priester. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women 's Society, and the Rice Planters Society of Walterboro.
Mrs. Schumacher was the widow of Boiler Technician-Chief Petty Officer John Henry Schumacher, United States Navy, who was killed while flying home on an Eastern Airlines flight over Long Island Sound, after returning from a tour of duty in the Philippines, in 1965.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Lloyd J. Priester, Annie P. Mixon-Allen, and Hazel P. Hiers-Evans. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Friday morning at 10:00 at the Williams Cemetery in Williams, SC. Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
