WALTERBORO : Mr. Edward W. "Eddie" Mitchell Sr. passed away Wednesday morning, December 2, 2020 at his home in Walterboro under the care of Intrepid Hospice with his children beside him. He was 87.
Mr. Mitchell was born in Walterboro February 10, 1933 a son of the late Lloyd S. Mitchell Sr. And Ruth Brown Mitchell. He attended Clemson University for a brief period of time before answering the call of his country, and serving in the United States Army during the Korean War. After his service he returned to the states, and then completed his education at the University of South Carolina. He taught math and driver's education in the public schools of Colleton County, and later focused his energies on farming and ranching. He was the former owner and operator of the Walterboro Grain Company, and was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Walterboro. He loved fishing, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his children, Becky R. Mitchell and Edward W. Mitchell Jr. (Chris) of Walterboro. There are four grandchildren: Stacey Maxey, and Allister, Dakota, and Chance Mitchell. He leaves behind a great-grandchild Lexie Spooner, and was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd S. Mitchell Jr. and James W. Mitchell.
The family will receive friends during a time of visitation Thursday evening, December 10, 2020 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro.
