Ada Elizabeth Cummings Guess (Lib), 89, of Canadys went home to her heavenly father on the morning of September 10, 2016. She was the loving wife for 64 years of C. Herman Guess and the adoring mother of Amy Elizabeth Guess and John F. Cummings, both of Yonges Island, SC. She is also survived by one brother, Harry Lee(Ching) Cummings of Suffolk, VA. She also had many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Lib was predeceased by her parents, Charlotte and Frank Cummings and four brothers, Elmo, Monroe, Franklin, and Lewis Cummings.

Lib graduated from Walterboro High School and attended Palmer College. She was a legal secretary for McLeod, Fraser, and Unger and a secretary for Production Credit Association. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Walterboro and attended both Providence United Methodist and Edisto Beach Baptist Churches. She was an active member of the WIRE Club of Coastal Electric. She faithfully visited the patients at the Methodist Nursing Home in Orangeburg and took supplies. Lib loved square dancing and shagging, and her adopted girls, Beverly, Donna, Frankie, Kerry, Lisa, and Mary.
She had a heart of gold and would do anything for anybody. Christmas was her favorite holiday and a time that she showered everyone with Christmas presents, from family and friends to Co-Op members to all the neighborhood children.

The family extends a special thank you to her angel caregivers, Joyce Simmons, Allydine Simmons, Slyvia Linguard, and Katherine Breland.


Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 in the chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, with burial following in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:30 at the funeral home.
