RUFFIN :  Mr. Robert Elliott Breland, husband for 70 years of the late Ola B. Breland, died in his home on Thursday, May 3, 2018. He was 94.

Mr. Breland was born April 10, 1924 in Colleton County, S.C., a son of the late Robert Osborne Breland and Ella Crosby Breland. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944 with the 504th Infantry Division of the 82nd Airborne. He retired after 35 years of service from the civil service at the Parris Island Marine Base and the Beaufort Marine Air Station. He was long considered an active member and leader in his community, and was both a lifelong and active member of Pine Grove Baptist Church #1. Mr. Breland was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family.

He is survived by three sons: Rodney C. Breland (Joyce) of Greenville, S.C., Edwin C. Breland (Jackie) of Columbia, S.C. and Terry L. Breland of Cleveland, GA. There are two grandchildren, Cyd Brown and Samuel Breland, as well as two great-grandchildren, Wren Brown and Waylon Breland. He is also survived by his siblings: Sarah B. Cope of Greenville,  Odell Breland of Cope, Jennie B. Polk of Walterboro, and Elsie B. Hill of Beaufort. He was preceded in death by his brother Joe Breland.

Graveside services will be held Sunday, May 6 2018 at 3:00 p.m. in the Pine Grove Baptist Church #1 Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Pine Grove Baptist Church #1, 99 Pine Grove Rd, Walterboro, SC 29488.
