WALTERBORO: Mrs. Elverta Mae Herndon, wife of the late Willie Wistell Herndon, died Wednesday at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. She was 83.
Mrs. Herndon was born March 22, 1932 in Brunson, the oldest of eleven children of the late Ben Owen Donahue and Eula Mae Stanley Donahue. She was a retired seamstress from Smoaks Manufacturing, and was a devoted member of the Peniel Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, directed the social committee, and served on the WMU.
Mrs. Herndon is survived by a daughter, Libby Fleischauer (Scott) of Walterboro. There are three brothers: Michael Donahue of Fairfax, and Gary and Billy Donahue of North Carolina. She has four sisters: Reba Terry of California, Aline Harvey and Doris Nettles of Georgia, and Daisy Padgett of Fairfax. Mrs. Herndon has one grandson, Eddie Lamar Cook, Jr., three great-grandchildren, Courtney, Trey and Aubrey Cook, and one great-great granddaughter, Kadence Buchanan.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 in the chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, with burial following in the Peniel Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Friday evening from 6-8 PM.
