The family of W. Evans Simons Jr. regretfully informs you of his passing at the Beaufort Memorial Hospital on September 28, 2022.

Evans was born on December 22, 1960 in Walterboro, SC, the first male child born in the Simons family in 25 years.  His parents were Winfield and Merri Hill Simons.

Evans loved all the toys and games of every young child, but he never liked his hands dirty, and his aunts and grandmothers saw to that with their "hankies".

At the age of ten neighbors that owned a small store next to the family offered him a job.  He had to take out the trash, burn the boxes, replenish the cans on the shelves, and sweep the floors.  When he got his first paycheck he decided right then what his job would be…to work for his money.

Evans graduated from Walterboro High School and his senior year he took a job with a fan belt factory.  He went to school at 8:15 and got out at 12:30.  He rushed home to eat lunch, change clothes, worked an afternoon shift, got home at midnight and then started all over again.  Over the years he had many jobs…each one with a raise.  One of his friends told him he was opening a new Honda car dealership in Beaufort and Evans knew that was his ticket out of town.  The owner talked him into taking some Dale Carnegie classes, and he was on his way.

For months on end he was the "Top Salesman of the Month" and was allowed to drive a car off the lot for his personal "ride".  Evans progressed in the car business and loved his new home of Beaufort.  Evans loved his work and made many new friends male and female.  He enjoyed cheering on the S.C. Gamecocks, never met a stranger, love gardening, enjoyed grilling outside, reading and drinking Bud Light.

Evans faced a devastating diagnosis of metastatic cancer with only a few months to live at the age of 55.  With no answers in S.C. he went to Jacksonville, FL to the Mayo Clinic where he was offered help without any promises.  After eleven and a half hours of surgery, with three surgeons, he was gifted five more years.

Along with this miracle, Jesus sent him an "Angel" his "significant other"…Zina …a registered nurse.  He lived with her loving care which was always extraordinary and beyond all expectations.  She devoted herself to his every need and loved him immensely. His sharp intellect never dimmed and his wisdom and humor shall be missed.  He achieved success, worked well, laughed often and loved much.  Many thanks go out to all of his friends, business acquaintances, doctors nurses and loved ones.

In addition to his mom and dad, Evans is survived by his brother Chad Simons.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning, October 8, 2022 at 10:00 in the chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, with burial following in the Live Oak Cemetery.
