Obituary

CANADYS: Florence Koger "Poncy" Robinson Nettles, a retired postmaster of the Canadys Post Office, died Tuesday at the Royal Oaks Residential Care Facility in Summerville. She was 86.


Mrs. Nettles was born Mar. 11, 1930 in Walterboro, a daughter of the late John Lindsey Koger and Virginia Smoak Koger. She was a lifelong member of Providence United Methodist Church, where she was the church pianist and a Sunday School Teacher. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved to cook and travel. Mrs. Nettles was the widow of both the late Vernon Redell Robinson and the late W. B. Nettles.

She is survived by four daughters: Cynthia Rogers (Manning) of Ridgeville, and Marilyn Creech (Buddy), Julie Moody (Darrel), and Robin Odum (Tim) all of Walterboro. There are three sisters: Mildred Sharpe of Camden, Catherine Harvey of Irmo, and Johnnie Wease of Mt. Pleasant. She has nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 in the chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, with burial following in the Live Oak Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Providence United Methodist Church.
