WALTERBORO: Mr. Robert Eugene "Gene" Hardee, husband of the late Barbara Seigler Hardee, passed away Wednesday morning at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was 71.
Gene was born in Loris, SC April 21, 1944 a son of the late Robert and Leila Fowler Hardee. He was a retired employee of the SCE&G plant at Canadys, and was well known for his love of old cars. He was an avid "Street-Rodder", and enjoyed attending car shows and the Daytona "Turkey Rod Run". He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his children: Mike Hardee (Wanda) of Walterboro, Terri Youmans (Joey) of Walterboro, and Tina Pye (Mickey Joe) of Cottageville. There are four grandchildren: Heath Youmans, Ashley Hardee, Michelle Pye, and Hailey Hardee. Gene leaves behind a special friend, Josephine Crosby, a devoted caregiver Christy Jordan, and a wonderful nurse from Hospice Care of South Carolina Melodie Craven. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Wayne Hardee.
Graveside funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 3:00 in the Bedon Baptist Church Cemetery, and the family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6-8 PM at Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
