RIDGEVILLE:     Mrs. Gladys Hughes Carter, wife of the late James Edward Carter, passed away Monday evening, January 6, 2025 at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.  She was 81.

Mrs. Carter was born in Walterboro May 6, 1943 a daughter of the late Joseph and Sarah Hoff Hughes.  For many years she worked alongside her husband at his construction business, but spent the majority of her life as a homemaker, always putting the needs of her family before hers.  She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and she loved spending time in her yard gardening and taking care of her roses.

She is survived by her children: Cindy Carter Roth (Burt), Linda Carter Crosby (Wendell) and Jamie Edward Carter (Kim).  There are six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon, January 11, 2025 at 3:00 at Cummings Chapel Cemetery in Ridgeville.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home of Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
