WALTERBORO: Mr. Gussie Lyons, husband of Dora Elizabeth Garvin Lyons, passed away Thursday Roper Hospital in Charleston. He was 81.

Mr. Lyons was born Oct. 9, 1934 in Walterboro, SC a son of the late Richard Lyons and Dorothy Bunton Lyons. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, and later the Air Force Reserves. He retired from Civil Service at the Charleston Air Force Base as an Aircraft Mechanic, and was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Summerville. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and was an avid outdoorsman, having served as president of the Cypress Bay Hunting Club. He loved Atlanta Braves Baseball.

In addition to his wife of fifty-eight years, he is survived by his children, Ricky Lyons (Louise), and Suzanne Lyons, all of Walterboro. There are two brothers, Eddie A. Lyons and George E. Lyons, of Walterboro, and a sister, Helen Roberts of St. George. There are two grandsons, Matthew Crosby and Richard M. Lyons, and two great-grandsons, Bret and Brock Crosby.

Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 6-8 PM at the Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home of Walterboro. Burial services will be conducted privately at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Walterboro. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Grace Lutheran Church in Summerville. Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home of Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
