YEMASSEE: William Harold Woods, husband of the late Lois Bell Woods, passed away at his home Thursday evening surrounded by his loving family. He was 90.

Harold was born in Colleton County December 16, 1925 a son of the late William B. Woods and Eliza Snead Woods. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and was the retired postmaster of both the Whitehall and Greenpond post offices. He was well-known as the manager of The Bluff (a hunting preserve and cattle ranch) and for many years served as an investigator for the Solicitor's Office of the Fourteenth Judicial Circuit.

Harold was a member of Black Creek Baptist Church, but had also actively attended the Yemassee Baptist Church in recent years. He served his community as a former Chairman of the Board of the Colleton County Hospital and as a member of the Colleton County Development Board. He was always heavily involved in politics, and was always willing to help cook at community fundraisers and events. For many years he volunteered with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, and was an avid outdoorsman, always enjoying his time hunting, fishing and gardening.


He is survived by his children: Janet Woods McCollum (Dennis Sr.) of Walterboro, and Anthony Harold Woods (JoBeth) of Yemassee. There are four grandchildren: Dennis McCollum Jr. (Amanda), Lauren McCollum, Chelsea Woods, and Ashlee Woods. He leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Addison and Braeleigh, and a sister Evelyn Woods Walker. Harold was preceded in death by three siblings: Frederick Woods, Pauline Woods Stroupe, and Mary Woods Walker.


Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2:00 in the Black Creek Baptist Church, with burial following in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 6-8 PM at Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home of Walterboro, which is in charge of arrangements.
