WALTERBORO: Mrs. Hazel Priester Hiers Evans passed away Monday evening at the Pruitt Health Care Center in Walterboro after an extended illness. She was 96.
Mrs. Evans was born in Colleton County February 17, 1920 a daughter of the late Oscar and Matilda Crosby Priester. She was a homemaker, and was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and was known for her love of fishing and her talents in the kitchen…especially making macaroni and pound cakes.
She is survived by her children: Eugene Hiers (Miriam) of Smoaks, Willie Hiers (Joyce) of Varnville, and Rhoda Hiers Gooch of Summerville. She has one sister, Dovie Schumacher of Columbia, her step-mother Dollie Stone of Walterboro, fourteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and thirteen great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 in the chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, with burial following in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends that morning beginning at 10:00. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Gideons International. Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home of Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
