Obituary

WALTERBORO:     Mrs. Helen Smoak Beach, wife of the late Robert L. "Robbie" Beach Sr., passed away peacefully Monday evening, November 3, 2025 at the Lowcountry Community Hospice House in Summerville.  She was 84.

Mrs. Beach was born in Smoaks February 13, 1941 a daughter of the late Francis Marion Smoak and the late Reba Fender Smoak.  As a young woman she worked at Smoaks Manufacturing before becoming a teacher's aide and bookkeeper for Bells Elementary School…a job she loved dearly that enabled her to become an important part of the lives of countless children over the years.  She was a hard-working woman who was also employed at Sky City and WalMart at the same time.  Later, she was a bookkeeper for Godley's Nursery, and then a devoted caregiver for Mrs. Pam Whetsel for over ten years.  Mrs. Beach was a member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her son, Robert L. Beach Jr. (April) of Walterboro, and by her daughter Donna "DD" Thomason (James)  of Mars Hill, NC.  She leaves behind three grandchildren, Elizabeth Priester (Taylor), Ashley Beach (Lance) and Orin Thomason, as well as a great-grandchild Braxton Priester.  She is survived by her devoted friend and caregiver Darlene Tolson, as well as by a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.  In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings Mendell Francis Smoak, Maxine Smoak Woods, and Martha Nell Smoak Adkins.

The family will receive friends during a time of visitation Thursday evening, November 6, 2025 from 4:00 until 6:00 at Parker-Rhoden Funeral home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro.  Funeral services will be held Friday morning, November 7, 2025 at 11:00 at the Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, with burial following in the church cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lowcountry Community Hospice House, 374 Myers Road, Summerville, SC  29483, or to The Ronald McDonald House, 81 Gadsen Street, Charleston, SC  29401.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home of Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
