WALTERBORO: Mr. Hugh Morgan Jr., husband of Patricia "Patsy" Litchfield Morgan, passed away unexpectedly Sunday afternoon at the Colleton Medical Center. He was 82.
Mr. Morgan was born in Savannah, GA July 28, 1933 a son of the late Hugh Morgan Sr. and Mary Rhett Morgan. He retired as the Postmaster of the Yemassee Post Office after thirty-three years of service with the US Postal Service. He was an active member of Black Creek Baptist Church, and was well-known for his love and extensive knowledge of South Carolina, Civil War, and Lowcountry history. He enjoyed spending time outdoors on the creeks and rivers of the region, and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and family man. Throughout his life he always maintained the companionship and love of many Black Labrador Retrievers…a breed he loved unconditionally.
In addition to his wife of thirty-six years, he is survived by two daughters: Suzanne Morgan Cook (Jerry) of Yemassee and Cheryl Morgan Hall (Bill) of Jamestown, NC. There are two step-daughters: Chris Jordan of Santee, and Dawn Farrish (Mark) of Walterboro. Mr. Morgan leaves behind seven grandchildren: Matt and Jay Cook, Rob and Charlie Hall, Alexis and Cameron Farrish, and Pierce Jordan. There are also three great-grandchildren: Dawson, Turner and Connor Cook.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 in the Black Creek Baptist Church, with burial following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:30 in the Church Sanctuary. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Black Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Joyce Stynchomb, 1837 Edward Road, Walterboro, SC 29488.
