James William Smoak of Green Creek, North Carolina passed away late evening on Friday July 15 ^th of natural causes at the age of 58.

James (Jamie) was born in 1964 to parents Faye and William Smoak in Walterboro, SC. He graduated in 1982 from John C. Calhoun and went on to work for the family business managing sales for Farena Furniture and traveling extensively for most of his young adult life. Later, he started his own business known as  "Low Country Seafood" selling fresh seafood from the coast in the mountains of North Carolina and gaining a large customer base. He was lovingly known as "The Shrimp Man" to most everyone who knew him.

In 1991 he married his second wife Pamela Zygadlo who he'd met in Walterboro a few years before. Pam and Jamie went on the have four children, two of their own Jeb and Danner Smoak and two he acquired by marriage Cope and Brandon Hayden who he loved like his own.

Though Jamie never made it to retirement it was clear he was working hard towards that goal in the last few years. Even though he worked hard he never forgot how to have fun, take it easy, and enjoy life in the meantime.  An avid lover of music he could often be found in his truck with his favorite riding buddy at the time listening to music from his youth and playing the "dashboard drums".

The "Shrimp Man" was known for his vivaciousness, charisma, storytelling, humor, and possibly most memorably his competitiveness. A die-hard Clemson fan for his entire life he claimed to "bleed orange" and got no greater pleasure than assuring people "Tigers loveee to eat Chicken". Watching Clemson football brought him so much joy and passion. Along with football and music he loved, karaoke, a good steak, cracking a lighthearted joke at your expense, and dancing like Chuck Berry for anyone who was watching. He loved his children and his honorary grandchildren Addison and Owen Hayden who they knew as "Pappy Jamie" and he loved his dogs. He was never too far from a smile, a joke, a piece of scripture, or a unique quirky gift for the ones he loved and that is how he will be remembered.

Jamie was predeceased by his mother Faye, father William, and brother "Billy" Smoak. He is survived by his children Cope (38) and Brandon Hayden (37), Danner (29) and Jeb Smoak (32), His brother Joey Smoak and sister Sandra Lawrie. His nieces and nephews: Sean and William Robert Smoak, Whitney Fender, Dr. Monica McCutcheon, Beth Barber, and Charles Lawrie.  He leaves behind his step grandchildren.

Services will be held at First Baptist of Walterboro on Sunday the 24th at 2:00 pm for anyone who wants to celebrate his life.
