SMOAKS: Mrs. Janadell E. Maldonado-Harris, affectionately known as "Jan" to her family and friends, passed away Tuesday morning, August 29, 2023 at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro after a period of declining health.  She was 81.

Jan loved to follow the open road wherever it took her.  Her hobbies included fishing, cooking and reading. The most important thing to her was her family, and she was a true friend to all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Jan was born in Baxley, GA   August 26, 1942 a daughter of the late James David Jackson Sr. and Bessie Marie Herndon Jackson.  She is survived by her husband, Jeffrey Wade "Jeff" Harris, by her two daughters D. Lee DeJesus (Shipman) and Teri Groves (Maldonado), by her son Edwin Maldonado, by her grandchildren Gloria and Joseph DeJesus and Alyssa and Fallon Groves, and by her two great-grandchildren Josiah and Jalani DeJesus.

A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 2:00 at the Colleton State Park.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro, is Assisting the family with arrangements.
