WALTERBORO:     Mrs. Janice Ann Avant Patterson, wife of William Jeff O'Quinn, passed away Monday evening, June 9, 2025 at the Trident Medical Center in Charleston at the age of 71.  She was born in Walterboro October 31, 1953, a daughter of the late Julius Derrick Avant and the late Margie Lucille Beach Avant.  For over forty years Janice was a well-known and dedicated Registered Nurse at the Colleton Medical Center, touching the lives of countless families with her caring demeanor and beautiful smile.  She was a member of Doctors Creek Baptist Church, and she enjoyed spending time at the beach with her family whenever she could.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, David Simmons (Sandra), and by five grandchildren:  Jordan (Shelby), Jess, Sara, Sydney and Ethan.  She leaves behind four brothers:  Derrick "Decky" Avant (Amy), Ronald "Ronnie" Avant (Mamie Dell), Dennis Avant (Betsy), and James "Buckshot" Avant (Sharon).  In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by her first husband James Howard Simmons, by her second husband Robert L. Patterson, and by her beloved son, James Howard Simmons Jr.

The family will receive friends during a time of visitation Monday evening, June 16, 2025, from 6:00 until 8:00, at Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning, June 17, 2025 at 11:00 at Doctors Creek Baptist Church, with burial immediately following in the church cemetery.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
